When To Use Binary Pumps

Binary Pumps consist of two channels - each channel has an identical reciprocating head, with both channels being connected to a low volume mixing chamber and to a single pulse damper, which in turn may be connected to a second mixing chamber.

The pumping speed / volume of each reciprocating pump is controlled by firmware (or PC based software) so that the solvent volume fraction from each channel will be proportioned to give the desired total flow. For instance, if a composition of 50% solvent X and 50% solvent Y is delivered, the units will each inject at an equal rate. If the required total output is 1mL per min, each of the reciprocating units will output at 0.5 mL per min.
